The Kiss Test in Pen

I picked up a set of these super fine colored pens today (Micron) to start my first colored test with Numberism.

So far, all of my originals have been done in pencil, but I've found the sepia prints to be so much more stunning with the color. I think the color helps the numbers pop off the page and helps the image stand out from across the room.

So I've started my first test, using "The Kiss" Sculpture as my subject. It's odd working in pen. I'm used to being able to erase, so I'm finding I have to trust myself more and just go with it.

I bought brown, red, yellow and black pens. I might do another piece using a lighter color for the falloff and black for the hard shadows. We'll see. I'm going to play with it. I might use red eyes, this sort of thing.

A RedBubble Favorite

I sell artwork over at RedBubble, and one of my many time-eating hobbies is searching through the endless pages of artwork there. I probably favorite way too often, but there's a lot of inspiring and powerful work there.

One artist I keep coming back to is HateFueled, (Paula Stirland) a female artist out of Australia. She mainly seems to work in charcoal and has honed that into an almost frighteningly good skill. Her portraits are not only acurate but passionate, soulful and expressive. I can't tell you how many times I've come back to the same piece of hers just to stare at it some more. One of these days I'll buy one.

My favorite, to this day is The Black Stripes

I'm not sure why. I think it has something to do with the fact that she's both beautiful and awkward. It always strikes me as being uncomfortable in your own skin, contorting yourself around this outward image. I'm probably looking into it too much, but hey, that's what we do.

I favorited Hatefueled early, which means I've been able to see her work over time. It's incredibly interesting watching how she's evolving and progressing as an artist. I highly recommend going to the last page in her gallery and working forward. You'll see what I mean.

I thought seeing as she's a long time favorite of mine, I'd devote a post to her. And maybe this holiday season I'll get around to finally buying a print of Black Stripes....or someone could give it to me for a Christmas present.... ;)

Big Beatiful Prints!

The wonderful Maynard Breeze has enlisted the help of his huge awesome printer in printing out a series of big beautiful prints from the Perpetual Motion series. I might sound a little excited, but then again, I am.

These are gorgeous! They're all about 27 inches by 22 inches, give or take for that particular piece. At this size, you can really see the intricate numberism work and it really compliments the whole series. They're printed on flexible watercolor paper, which gives them the vibe and feel of originals. In fact, the paper is very close to the paper I'm using for the originals.

I'm so excited to see these. I showed them yesterday at The Mighty Cup And Spoon's Grand Re Opening, and they looked great. I got them that morning, so I just had a temporary display for them, but they still looked impressive. Even better news: I've already started selling them!

This is a limited series of prints and each 27" piece is selling for $60. Once I get them matted and or framed, the prices will go up. For the Holiday season, when you buy a large print, I am throwing in a free 8.5" x 11" print of your choice. Just tell me which one you want. :)

They are available to buy online with credit card or paypal at my Etsy shop at http://www.siennaMorris.etsy.com

Or just send me an email at Art.Sienna@Gmail.com

You can click on the images below to go straight to that piece on Etsy. Only the Perpetual Motion pieces come in the extra large beautiful paper prints. :)

Hob Nobs First Friday

Last night I set up shop in front of Hob Nobs coffee shop again.

As usual, Hob Nobs was a great place for feedback. There was so much opportunity to talk to people about the work, and so many people gave me interesting perspectives on my own work. I'm always looking for feedback, and last night was the jack pot.

I have a bit of a thing about Firemen. No, it's not sexual. I never knew how little we paid Firemen until I watched Rescue Me. Yeah, I'm a Rescue Me fan. Anyway, it just galls me that we pay such a tiny salary to a group of people who are willing to risk their lives to save our own. I've ranted on this before, so I won't go into it, but as far as I'm concerned, if your job entails saving peoples lives at the risk of your own, you should see a few more zeroes in you annual salary.

So, I've been thinking about doing a Fireman piece for the Numberism series, but I haven't found the right picture yet.

Wouldn't you know it, Hob Nobs is right across the street from Fire Station 4, and last night they all came over to peruse the Hob Nob artwork. They were great. I think it was the Chief who actually went so far as to explain one of my pieces to me. He had it dead on, and I didn't have to say a thing. You always hope that your art will speak for itself without any of your help and last night was probably the most extreme example of that. He just looked at "Almost Time", and laid it all out for me. So this crew really seems to get it.

I've asked Fire Station 4 if I can use one of them as a model for the Fireman piece I've been mulling over. I offered to give them the original but they refused. I'm going to at least push a large print on them. It's almost nothing at all, but I'd like to give it to them. I've never been in a fire, but I know if I was caught in one, these guys wouldn't hesitate to help. I kind of feel like I need to thank them for that. They get paid a pittance for their work, so as I see it, at least I can give them my gratitude. (It won't help pay the bills, but hey, I'm an artist: what do you expect? )
